Reduction
There are ceramic vessels preserved in museum collections that testify to the traditions of reduction firing in Lithuania, dating back 1,500 to 3,000 years. Reduction is a chemical reaction during which chemical compounds lose oxygen. In ceramics, reduction is known as the metalization of glazes. The entire process takes place in an airtight kiln. After firing, when the temperature drops to 600°C, burning materials are poured in, and once the oxygen has burned off, special reduction glazes shine in various hues. This reduction technique offers endless possibilities for surprises and experiments, and the mysterious gleam is always enchanting... :)

Anagama – translated from Japanese, it means "Kiln in the mountain."

More than 2,000 years ago, this ceramic technology arrived in Japan from Korea. In the Anagama kiln, products made from special clay are fired with resinous wood for about a week at a temperature of approximately 1300°C.

During firing, a large amount of charcoal ash is produced, which settles on the pieces, colouring them with unpredictable, magical hues – creating flowing ash glaze effects.

After firing, such ceramic works acquire exceptional durability, the hardness of stone, and are valued in the exclusive category of ceramic products.
